Estuary View House
New Build House, Exton
The Brief
The clients were moving to Devon from the Midlands and asked Barc to design a two-storey contemporary home for their family. They wanted to ensure that the building was as energy efficient as possible, had certain spaces similar to their midlands home and made the most of the estuary views.
The Work
Barc worked closely with the client to ensure that the design for their new home matched these aspirations. We adopted a fabric first approach to establish a building envelope of very high performance. Extensive glazing across the rear elevation ensures that the views of the estuary are captured, and a connection between inside and out is established. We designed an impressive curved laser-cut steel staircase that sits at the heart of the house and throws patterns of light onto the surrounding walls.
