An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Architectural Technologist/Technician to join our team at Barc Architects based in Exeter, Devon. We are an innovative, creative and quickly growing practice with exciting projects across the south west. Our studio is a relaxed and friendly place to work and the successful candidate will enjoy being involved with a wide variety of complex and varied design challenges.

We are looking for a talented individual to join our team and support the delivery of projects from concept through to completion, with particular emphasis on the technical design stage. We are looking for someone with strong technical design skills and construction knowledge, typical day-to-day activities will include:

• Preparation of Building Regulations applications;
• Technical review of concept designs;
• Construction detailing;
• Technical design, drawings and review;
• Preparing & negotiating tenders;
• Preparation of project specifications;
• Contract administration and site meetings.

Our projects vary from residential extensions and conversions, to contemporary new build dwellings and commercial developments. This position will provide the successful candidate with a wide variety of experience and the opportunity to be involved with a project from beginning to end.

The ideal candidate will:

• Be positive, innovative and self-motivated;
• Have a minimum of 5-years of relevant experience in the UK;
• Have good CAD skills, with experience of using Vectorworks and Revit (BIM & 3D Vectorworks being an advantage);
• Be able to manage their own time efficiently and effectively;
• Have good communication skills;
• Have a fresh and innovative approach to design.

The article explores a variety of projects which have different styles and features and describes our Boucher Road project as a ‘combination of modern style pliancy and traditional nobility’ which ‘combine to create a harmonious contrast between the red brick back façade and the modern concrete front fascia’.

Our ever-popular Headlands Cottage project has been recently featured on in an article titled ‘10 Ways to Give Your Cloakroom Character‘. The article describes the design of this WC as ‘an oasis of calm thanks to a single panel of woodland wallpaper and an ingenious lighting scheme.’ The article goes on to say ‘the room is creative and intriguing.’

Headlands Cottage featured on Houzz

Our Headlands Cottage project has been featured in an article on Houzz (Italy), titled ’20 Floors That Work Well In A Small Bathroom’. Our well admired toilet design has been featured in many articles, this one specifically describes how the cedar floor covering, combined with the woodland wallpaper and LED lighting, gives the room a natural feel, becoming a shelter among the trees.

White Oaks Features on Homify, Netherlands

Our award-winning White Oaks project has been featured on Homify, this time in the Netherlands. The article is titled “Build your own luxury dream villa with a low budget” and describes White Oaks as “a cube house”. To roughly translate, with regards to White Oaks the article says “And here we see another example of a house with a minimalist and very simple design. The costs remain low whilst living in a detached caravan, which suits the budget of a family home.”

Adam Scott – Certified Passivhaus Designer

Congratulations to Adam Scott for undertaking, and passing, the Passivhaus Designer training course & exam!

Adam continually works to build upon his extensive technical and construction knowledge and, as of 1st August 2017, has obtained the designation of Certified Passivhaus Designer; he brings his Certified Passivhaus Designer knowledge to a variety of projects at Barc and actively contributes to improving the quality of our buildings. Interior Design Project at Exeter Golf & Country Club

July 19th, 2017

We have recently had the pleasure of working on an interior design and refurbishment project with Exeter Golf and Country Club which will be starting on site very soon. The Mews Room, one of Wear Park’s original buildings dating back hundreds of years, contains a sun-trap terrace, its own bar and many original features dating back to when it was part of the manor house stable block.

The proposed refurbishment incorporates a fresh contemporary design, modern furniture and high spec lighting & AV equipment – all of which compliment the barn’s original features.

Sheppy’s Cider Opens it Doors

July 14th, 2017

Our Sheppy’s Cider project has recently been completed and officially opened its doors to the public in April 2017, marking their bicentenary. The new restaurant, shop, café and bar have been a huge success and Caroline and Emmet recently gave a talk and tour of the building, alongside the client, for the RIBA in Somerset.
